What is Pension SimplificationOn the 6th April 2006 the rules relating to Pension Schemes and Plans were significantly changed. These changes were referred to as “Pension Simplification” and the date as “A-Day”. These changes have affected everybody who has a pension plan, whether contributing or not, and in some cases those who are already drawing their pension. They swept away the eight existing tax frameworks that had evolved over the previous thirty years, and replaced them with one set of rules to govern all plans with the intention of making them easier to understand. The effect of “Pension Simplification” is anything but simple. This especially applies to individuals who have large sums in their pension funds. Summary of main changes: |
